Wedding car traditions are part of the charm of the day — but plenty of couples aren’t sure what the "rules" actually are, or how flexible they can be. Here’s a quick guide to the ones we’re asked about most as part of our wedding car hire service.
Who travels in which car?
Traditionally the bride travels to the ceremony with whoever is giving her away, and the couple leave together afterwards. Bridesmaids and close family often travel in a second car. Modern weddings adapt this freely — there’s no wrong answer.
Ribbons and décor
Ribbons in your colours are the classic finishing touch, usually run from the windscreen to the bonnet. We coordinate these to your scheme as standard.
The order of arrivals
Guests first, then the wedding party, with the bride arriving last and a few minutes after everyone is seated. On busy days we time arrivals deliberately so this sequence runs smoothly.
Traditions are a starting point, not a rulebook — the best weddings keep what they love and quietly drop the rest.
Frequently asked questions
Do we have to follow tradition?
Not at all — we’ll plan the day exactly how you want it. The traditions are there to borrow from, not to follow rigidly.
Can we have more than one car?
Yes — we regularly provide multiple cars and coordinate the timing between them.
